"The hand follows the heart"... For nearly 100 years, the Kathe Kruse Studios have created products following this motto!
"A doll has to be something a child can love", another one of the Kathe Kruse's mantra's.
One hundred years later, all dolls and toys are still made by hand. Yet today the company has grown and the Käthe Kruse name is synonymous with toys as well as children's room accessories. Hugging, grabbing, listening, touching, feeling, splashing, delighting, laughing, loving, all these expressions represent the Kathe Kruse philosophy.
Text by The Directing Manager of Kathe Kruse Doll Studio, Andrea K. Christenson
The Kathe Kruse Doll Studio is the oldest German doll company that is still existing and working in the traditional way. The first Kathe Kruse doll was created in 1905 and had just celebrated it's 100th year in 2005. Kathe Kruse Doll is a true German legend. Each doll and item of doll clothing is made by hand and takes from 16 to 36 hours to make. During that time, it will pass through the hands of 8 to 10 craftspeople and artists. As a result, not one doll is the same and the complicated production process never allowed the products to be mass produced. The dolls that are made in the early years are now so valuable on the collector's market that prices increase from year to year.
